UNITED NATIONS RESOLUTION
On December 14, 2022, the UN General Assembly at its 77th session unanimously adopted the resolution “2025 – International Year of Glacier Preservation” proposed by the Republic of Tajikistan, supported by 153 UN Member States.
The proposals submitted by the President of the country were supported by the UN Member States, including:
– Declaring March 21 as International Day of Glacier Preservation;
– Declaring 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Preservation;
– Establishing of the International Trust Fund under the UN to promote glacier protection;
– Holding an International Conference on Glacier Preservation in Dushanbe in 2025.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE CENTER FOR THE INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF GLACIER PRESERVATION
– Establishment of a glacier monitoring network at an altitude of 3500-4800 meters above sea level.
– Publication of the Catalog of Glaciological Terms
– Publication of “Glaciers, Terms and Explanations”.
– Professor Abdulhamid Kayumov was awarded by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan №117 the Order of II degree for significant achievements in the development of glaciological science.
– Publication of the volume “Quotations from the speeches of the Founder of National Peace and Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon on the issue of glacier preservation in the context of climate change” in Tajik, Russian and English languages.
– The Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Glaciers” has been submitted to the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
– During the period of the Center’s activity 52 scientific research expeditions were conducted.
– In the hall of the State Institution “National Museum” of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Tajikistan a “Hall of Glaciers” dedicated to the study of glaciers was created.
– Catalog of glaciers of the Republic of Tajikistan was published.
