KAYUMOV ABDULHAMID
Kayumov Abdulhamid, professor, аcademician of MANEB. Academician of the Engineering Academy of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Since 2018, director of the State Scientific Institution “Center for the Study of Glaciers of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan”.
He graduated from the Medical Institute, and then the Faculty of Geography of the Pedagogical University with a degree in geography.
From 1978 to 1993 he worked in the Department of Nature Protection and Rational Use of Natural Resources of the Academy of the Republic of Tajikistan.
From 1993 to 1998, he was the General Director of the National Park of Tajikistan. He stood at the origins of the creation of the national park. It is worth noting that the park is currently included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
He is the initiator and organizer of numerous scientific expeditions. During his work at the Glacier Research Center alone, he organized more than 40 expeditions. It should be noted that in 1983-1984 he took part in the Soviet Antarctic expedition. A. Kayumov was the first Tajik to visit Antarctica as a researcher. In 2008/2009 on his initiative and in accordance with the Government Decree, the first Tajik Antarctic Expedition was organized within the framework of the International Polar Year. Upon returning to Tajikistan, the Antarctic Museum was founded. The museum houses the Tajik flag, which was raised in Antarctica.
Professor Kayumov A. аppointed as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Cryosphere and Hydrology Coordinator from Tajikistan, a member of the Commission on Climate Hydrology and Water Resources (CLW) of WMO, and since 2019 – the National Correspondent of the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) from Tajikistan.
Based on the results of research work, in 1988 he defended his Ph.D. thesis, in 2000 – his doctoral dissertation, in 2002 he received the title of professor. In 1995 he was elected a corresponding member of the Engineering Academy of the Republic of Tajikistan, and in 2021 – an academician of the Engineering Academy of the Republic of Tajikistan. He is an Academician of the International Academy of Environmental and Life Safety Sciences in 2019. He has published over 280 articles, including 32 monographs and books. Under the leadership of Professor A. K. Kayumov, preparations are underway for the publication of the 12-volume Atlas of the Glaciers of Tajikistan.
